Dawn

People go on with their lives, ignoring what is around them,
They are too busy with their tasks to spare even a thought,
To the glory of what is unfolding all around them,
They all have eyes but they don’t bother to see,
They all have ears but they don’t care to listen,

I sit in my car as I drive along to where I’m going,
Yet I can see and hear the joy that is to be known,
My heart leaps, spurred by fierce anticipation,
I see the steady brightening of the sky,
I hear the cheerful rejoicing of birds,

Then at last a beam of light breaches the horizon,
The first warm, golden rays of the rising sun,
I smile as I greet the coming of the dawn,
I behold the gift of a precious, new day,
I know better than to take it for granted.

Whatever Remains

The remnants of the night tend to linger in my clothes;

the scent of liquor won’t leave my vest,
nor will that girl’s perfume, who was trying her best
my favorite shirt still smells of cigarette smoke,
or the drunken breath of the older bloke
the unsynchronised beats of the music failed to entice me
no sweat seeped into my skirt, I didn’t set myself free
nor did I get lost in the ogling man’s eyes,
turning him down was his most unpleasant surprise
I didn’t come close to anyone’s lips,
that reeked of mistakes and unfortunate slips
I went home with a friend, who remained by my side
kissed him good night, let everything else slide

And the following morning, when only memories remain
I can wash out the proof of their existence, though to me, it’s all the same
Because at least I can make all these disappear,
while you, I cannot
you are always right here
in my mind, never to be forgot

The Reason Why

babies cry
because they know
what awaits them in
this life

babies cry
because they know
the labor they will go
through
by force

babies cry
because they know
that if they do not
shed tears now
they will shed
too many
whilst
growing
up

babies cry
because they know
of unhappiness to
come
with
far too little
happiness
inbetween

babies cry
because they know
of all the misery
heading for
them
with
no way out
but death

babies cry
because they know
there is no
solution
yet
in this world

babies cry
because they know
and only stop
because they forget

To Give

I found myself with such a nagging head,
When questioning the stinging of the cost,
To think and see if it would help indeed,
Would paying up belay such an accost?

And then a gilded thought occurred to me,
That maybe there was something to uncover,
To look beyond what weary eyes could see
and find potential that I might discover,

And so I made the countenance to pay,
Becalmed that I had found a sound result,
To lend my money, cherishing the day
when empathy defeated human fault,

I find myself with gratitude’s compression,
The gift of giving stirring up compassion.

Las Rosas del Holler~

DSC01801
The Holler is rural and rustic, so when I first moved here, almost seven years ago now, I first planted roses.
DSC01819
It was an act of faith. Roses are civil, and I wasn’t sure this place was.
DSC01877
Somehow I knew from the very beginning to encase their roots in chicken wire to repel the gophers who turned out to be legion.
DSC01884
This first day of spring, The Holler roses are in wild, exuberant bloom!
DSC01778
At night I hoot in communion with the owls, in the morning I wake up to be greeted by the hawks.
DSC01759 (1)
This is the most civil place I have ever lived.
Cheers to you and Happy Spring from The Holler’s Bloominng roses~

Refraction

Dimensions distorted,
Coruscation contorted,
Fragmentary light
yielding colors assorted,
Luminescent luster,
Methodical muster,
Starlight streaming
through a glass adjuster,
Fastidious founding,
Refraction resounding,
Light galvanized and
ready for propounding.
